Your hours are costed at your target rate, because an overrun is a real cost even though no money moved. The effective rate is the honest number — it is what the project paid you once the extra hours are counted.

The effective rate is the answer
Profit and margin flatter a project that overran, because they say nothing about how long it took. The effective rate does: quoted price minus direct costs, divided by the hours you actually spent. Quote €5,000 for what you thought was 40 hours, spend 70, and you worked for €65 an hour, not €125.
Costing your own time
Your hours go in at your target rate, even though no money changed hands. That is the point — an overrun is a real cost paid in the work you could not take instead. A project that shows a profit only because your time was free is a project that lost you money.
What to do with it
Run it on the last three projects before you quote the next one of the same kind. The pattern is usually clear and usually the same: one category of work consistently overruns, and it is the one you keep quoting from memory. Price that type higher or scope it tighter.
Questions, answered
Is it free?
Yes, and nothing you enter is stored.
Where do I get the hours?
Any time tracker, or an honest estimate. weBiller tracks time against a client and turns it into invoice lines.
What counts as a direct cost?
Anything bought for this project: subcontractors, stock images, a licence, travel. Not your general overhead.
The effective rate is below my target — now what?
Either the quote was low or the scope moved. Both are fixable, and both need this number to be visible first.
